Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Sciences
KAMS Community
The KAMS experience begins with offering a rigorous, student-focused
education to high school juniors and seniors. However, it is
important that KAMS develops the whole student by balancing
academics with co- and extra-curricular activities. The KAMS
residential life experience will build a close-knit community
of scholars and engaged student leaders. By living and studying
together, KAMS students will forge a strong, supportive learning
community.
KAMS will offer many typical high school activities, such
as student government, clubs and dances. Students will be able
to take advantage of opportunities to participate in appropriate
activities offered by Fort Hays State University, such as music,
theatre and organizations.
Campus Community
The Legislature set the framework for required course work.
In addition, FHSU consulted with the National Consortium for Specialized
Secondary Schools in Mathematics, Science, and Technology FHSU
is a cultural nexus for western Kansas, providing access to
sports, Broadway productions and other performing arts, and
art exhibitions. FHSU is closely connected to the community
and region, allowing natural opportunities for service learning
and engagement with the community.
Hays Community
Located on Interstate 70, Hays offers many
community opportunities
for cultural, social, and intellectual enrichment to balance
a student’s education. Most importantly, Hays is a safe, friendly community
with low rates of violence and crime, a particularly important consideration
for parents of prospective students.
