Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Sciences

In early June, members of the KAMS development team hit the road to host information sessions about the Kansas Academy of Mathematics and Science. Meetings were held in Garden City, Hays, Lawrence, Overland Park, Topeka, Salina and Wichita. With a combined attendance of 150+, participants included prospective students, parents, teachers, counselors, gifted facilitators, principals, superintendents, school board members, elected officials and others.

The main goal of the sessions was to share information about curriculum, admissions requirements, academic preparedness, student life, and cost. However, the meetings also provided the team the opportunity to respond to questions and gain invaluable insight from participants about a wide range of topics. The development team appreciates the rich feedback as it continues to finalize the many plans necessary to ensure a high quality and successful Academy experience for the first class entering in Fall 2009.

A final goal of the information sessions was to invite individuals to be part of a grass-roots effort to help promote KAMS in the coming year. KAMS is looking for individuals willing to distribute materials, help publicize KAMS in organization/association newsletters, fundraise and serve on the Advisory Board, among many other opportunities to get involved.

If you are interested in getting involved as a volunteer, download the Volunteer Form and email or fax it to the KAMS office.
